Stretched Timing Chain On Audi Volkswagen 2.0

Stretched Timing Chain On Audi Volkswagen 2.0

Volkswagen Audi engine timing chains come in many variations specific to the vehicle but have the same responsibility to keep mechanical synchronization within the engine to ensure smooth operation. The engine in question is a 2.0 CAEB TFSI. Here are some insights:   What is a timing chain? It is a metal chain that wraps around sprockets within the engine that are attached to crankshaft and camshafts to synchronize the stages of intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust for the engine to produce power. What are symptoms of a bad timing chain? Some may include: CEL Light- The check engine light is on and may have timing codes stored in the ECM module. Hesitation- Vehicle is having trouble starting or may not start at all.  Rattling sound- A rattling sound can be heard from the engine with accordance to applying gas.  Misfire-  ... read more

Audi VW 2.0T TSI Timing Chain Tensioner Failure

Audi VW 2.0T TSI Timing Chain Tensioner Failure

A rattling noise from the timing cover, all engine cylinders misfiring, car died and won't restart or extended engine cranking time are all symptoms of a failed timing chain tensioner. This particularly applies to Volkswagen Audi 2.0 TSI engines from 2008-2013 with engine code CCTA, CBFA, CAEB and CPMA which comes with the inferior chain tensioner. We now dive in by removing the front nose of the car and have the timing covers removed. The TSI timing chain tensioner has been updated several times due to their failure rate. The tensioner in question is highlighted in purple. When this component fails, it applies less tension causing the timing chain to get loose and rattle. Once the timing chain jumps timing, being that this is an "interference engine", it can lead to catastrophic engine failure as the internal engine components collide against each other, e.g. intake or exhaust valve making contact against the piston. To avoid a costly engine failur ... read more
